December is Universal Human Rights Month

December 2023 marks Universal Human Rights Month. This month marks the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Human Rights Day is celebrated on Sunday, December 10th, yet the movement is recognized throughout the whole month of December. This month holds its importance as it is the month that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights document was brought into light, back in 1948. This landmark document shares the undeniable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being. This is regardless of any race, color, upbringing, social status, political views, language, etc.

Each year, Universal Human Rights Month has its own unique and individual theme. This year, in 2023, the theme for Universal Human Rights Month is Freedom, Equality and Justice for All. In recent years, there has been a strain in human rights. As the world faces tough challenges, the UDHR serves as a guide for how we should be treating one another. The theme of this month serves as a way of emphasizing the importance of equality for people of all walks of life.
