November is National Family Caregivers Month

November 2023 marks National Family Caregivers Month. Statistically, more than 53 million caregivers provide unpaid care. President Biden proclaimed November as National Family Caregivers Month to celebrate those who care for their families, without any paid benefits. It is stated on The White House website that National Family Caregivers Month was created to “honor the Americans who lift up our communities and our Nation by providing dignified, professional, and invaluable care to the people we cherish the most (The White House).

Each year, National Family Caregivers Month has its own unique and individual theme. This year, in 2023, the theme for National Family Caregivers Month is #CaregiversConnect. This theme serves as a way of emphasizing the importance of connecting to information, support, and, most importantly, each other. This shows that people throughout the country are coming together with the goal of providing information regarding family caregiving. They allow themselves to connect with others in the same situation, and gain support.

Here are some ways you can participate in National Family Caregivers Month:

  1. Notice and support the caregivers in your life

  2. Give a gift to the caregiver in your life

  3. Show support to caregivers throughout the country who share their story online

  4. Share your story online with the hashtag #CaregiversConnect
