October 10th: World Mental Health Day

Yesterday, October 10th, 2023, marked World Mental Health Day. World Mental Health Day is recognized, internationally, as a day dedicated to mental health awareness, education and advocacy. This day started being celebrated back in 1992 with a global health organization called the World Federation for Mental Health.

Each year, World Mental Health Day has its own unique and individual theme. This year, in 2023, the theme for World Mental Health Day was “Mental health is a universal human right”. This theme serves as a reminder that everyone in the world should come together to raise awareness, encourage understanding and praise awareness that will help to end the stigma and advance the world’s mental health rights.

Here are some ways you can participate in World Mental Health Day:

  1. Share your story on social media

  2. Check in with your loved ones, and show them support

  3. Educate yourself on mental health and share what you know with those around you

  4. Take action and donate to a mental health foundation

  5. Encourage those around you to share their story
