September — National Suicide Prevention Month

Suicidal thoughts can affect anyone regardless of their background, gender, or age. Suicide is often the result of any untreated mental health condition. Every year, mental health advocates, survivors, allies, and communities around the world unite and raise awareness of suicide prevention during the month of September. This is an important time to discuss a highly stigmatized topic. National Suicide Prevention Week is the Monday through Sunday surrounding World Suicide Prevention Day, where resources and stories are shared and individuals promote suicide prevention awareness. World Suicide Prevention Day, September 10, is a time to remember those affected by suicide and to focus on efforts directing treatment to those who need it. This month focuses on changing the conversation from suicide to suicide prevention and to promote healing, help, and give hope to those struggling with their mental, physical, and emotional health. It is important for everyone to continue to shift the public perception of suicide as well as spreading hope and resources. If you or a loved one is experiencing suicidal thoughts or feelings, help is available. 988 is the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, which is available 24 hours a day.
